Spoken Language Study

Spoken Language Study
Accent: How you pronounce something depending on where you’re from.
Dialect: Words that are used in different parts of the country. For example George W Bush pronounces ‘you all’ as “y’all”.
Adjacency Pairs: Normally are sentence starters, which take turns in polite replies.
Back-Channel Replies: Interruptions when someone is talking, they occur just to show the person who is talking that you are interested, such words that are used are ‘mmm, yeah. I know what you’re talking about’ a sign of politeness.
Diexis: This is when you mention something without using ‘proper’ words, examples of this is when you say (it, him, her etc…)
Elision: Is when your accent changes a word without you realising. ‘Want to becomes: wanna’ and ‘you all becomes: y’all’.
Ellipsis: Is when people miss out words to make things sound shorter, ‘I might be/Might Be’. This makes sentences sound more casual.

George Bush Analysis

George Bush

The link above is  to a video of the Ex-American President George Bush being interviewed on a Golf Course, he talks about Terrorism and how 'all nations need to do everything they can to stop' it. This small quote he says is really important because it is the truth, we need to stop terrorism! However he lets himself down afterwards by saying 'now watch this drive', this shows that he is not taking the subject seriously and it would affect his position in the near future elections but most of all it would frustrate and upset the victims of 9/11 and any other terrorist attacks because of his unprofessional manner. Overall I think George Bush needs to be more professional in his roll and he needs to be more diplomatic in his reponse.
